Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has raised serious questions over US President Donald Trump’s repeated claim that he brought about a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after a May 07 conflict.

Rahul said Trump has now made the claim 25 times, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not responded even once, creating confusion and suspicion over the issue.

“Trump says he stopped the war and saved both countries from nuclear conflict. Five planes were shot down, he claims. But the PM Modi has stayed silent,” Rahul said.

Speaking to the Indian reporters at Parliament House, Rahul remarked, “Who is Trump to bring a ceasefire? And why is our PM not clarifying? Something is clearly fishy.”

The Congress MP referred to Trump’s comments where the former US President said he prevented a nuclear war between India and Pakistan and ensured peace was restored.

Rahul added that the issue is bigger than just the ceasefire claim. He also demanded answers on Operation Sindoor and the government’s handling of national defence and foreign policy.

He questioned the mixed messaging by the government. “On one hand, they say Operation Sindoor continues. On the other, they claim victory. If victory happened, why is the operation still on?”

Gandhi said the government has agreed to a debate on Operation Sindoor once PM Modi returns from his foreign trip. But he asked why it is being delayed.

Senior Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Jairam Ramesh, also criticized the government. Kharge called Trump’s claims “humiliating” and demanded a clear statement from the prime minister.

Jairam Ramesh said Trump has repeated the ceasefire claim 25 times in 73 days. He noted the PM has stayed silent while spending time abroad instead of addressing Parliament.

The opposition has also accused the government of damaging India’s foreign policy and weakening democratic institutions, urging the PM to explain the events surrounding Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor.
