Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah has directed the complete removal of encroachments along the Karachi-Thatta Road (N-5) within one week.
He issued the orders during a high-level meeting at his office, attended by officials, including the Secretary Implementation & Coordination (I&C), DIG Traffic, Managing Director of Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB), Municipal Commissioner of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of Malir, Korangi and Thatta districts.
During the meeting, the participants were briefed on the current state of encroachments along the N-5 highway, emphasizing the road’s importance for trade, travel, and daily commuting.
Officials briefed the CS on illegal occupations along the N-5, including water tankers, heavy trucks and roadside stalls, which have disrupted traffic and caused public inconvenience.
Chief Secretary Shah expressed serious concern over the authorities’ inaction and warned of disciplinary action for any negligence. He stressed the road must remain free from obstructions and ordered strict compliance from all departments.
He instructed the Deputy Commisioner (DC) Malir to immediately shift all parked tankers to the Zulfiqarabad Oil Tanker Terminal and asked traffic police and municipal bodies to launch joint operations for clearing and maintaining the road.
Shah also highlighted the need for sustainable enforcement and ongoing monitoring to prevent future encroachments. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to better traffic management and public safety on key transport routes.
