Record crowds tune in as Pakistan hosts Champions Trophy 2025

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, co-hosted by Pakistan and the UAE, achieved an impressive milestone with a staggering 368 billion global viewing minutes, reflecting a significant 19 percent increase from the previous edition held in England and Wales in 2017, as reported by ICC.

In the 2017 Champions Trophy, Pakistan triumphed over arch-rivals India, winning by 180 runs in the final at The Oval. The recently concluded eight-team tournament marked Pakistan’s first ICC event on home soil since 1996.

In preparation for the tournament, Pakistan undertook extensive renovations and construction of stadiums across the country, notably completing the revamp of Gaddafi Stadium in record time. The 2025 tournament featured matches hosted in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, with Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium hosting four games, including a semi-final, while Karachi kicked off the tournament with the opening match.

The final, held on March 9 in the UAE between India and New Zealand, became the most-watched Champions Trophy match in history, generating 65.3 billion live viewing minutes globally—a remarkable 52.1 percent increase over the 2017 final.

Despite Pakistan’s performance not meeting expectations, viewing hours within the host nation increased by 24 percent. Additionally, the tournament set a record as the most-watched Champions Trophy in Australia, with viewing hours rising by 65 percent compared to the previous edition.
