A couple clarified that a viral Kashmir video wrongly identified them as Indian Navy officer Vinay Narwal and his wife, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.
The 19-second clip shows a young couple dancing in Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley to Coke Studio’s “Jhol,” which went viral after the April 22 attack.
Many social media users falsely claimed the clip showed Lt Narwal and his wife just hours before the tragic Pahalgam terror attack targeting tourists.
However, travel vloggers Ashish Sehrawat and Yashika Sharma confirmed they are the couple in the video, recorded during their trip on April 14.
Ashish, who works for Indian Railways, said they posted the video on April 22 but took it down after receiving backlash online and from followers.
He also shared the video’s metadata proving it was filmed on April 14, several days before the Pahalgam incident that killed Lt Narwal of the Indian Navy.

“We are alive,” said Yashika in a follow-up video, adding they were shocked to see their content misused by Indian Media and linked to a tragic situation.
Yashika, a flight attendant, said their families were initially panicked after seeing the viral video, fearing the couple had been caught in the attack.
She expressed sorrow for Lt Narwal’s family and urged people to stop spreading misinformation, saying, “This is heartbreaking and extremely disrespectful.”
“It’s painful to see someone else’s memory being replaced by ours in such a tragic context. We urge everyone to report these fake posts,” she added.

As per Hindustan Times, the real image of Lt Narwal and his grieving wife Himanshi was confirmed by family members and is different from the couple in the viral clip.
Lt Narwal had traveled to Pahalgam with Himanshi for their honeymoon, originally planned in Switzerland but delayed due to visa issues.
They chose Pahalgam, often called ‘Mini Switzerland,’ to celebrate, not knowing the trip would end in tragedy and mourning.
At his funeral, Himanshi said, “He lived a good life. We should all be proud of him. May his soul rest in peace.”
