At least 94 people were injured and one woman was killed in separate incidents of celebratory aerial firing across Karachi during Independence Day celebrations, according to hospital and rescue officials.

The incidents were reported as Pakistan marked its 79th Independence Day on August 14, with celebrations taking place across the city.
According to Chhipa rescue officials, the woman who died in an aerial firing incident was identified as Nida.
The 94 injured people were shifted to major hospitals across Karachi, including Civil Hospital, Jinnah Hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, for medical treatment. The casualties included 56 men, 15 women, 15 boys and 8 girls.

Rescue officials said incidents of aerial firing were reported from different parts of Karachi during Independence Day celebrations.
Aerial firing during celebrations and other festive occasions remains a recurring public safety concern in Pakistan.
Although celebratory gunfire is often carried out as a form of celebration, bullets fired into the air can return to the ground at dangerous speeds and strike unsuspecting people.

The latest incidents once again highlight the risks posed by the widespread availability and misuse of firearms in Karachi.
Authorities routinely warn citizens against aerial firing during celebrations, as the practice can turn festive gatherings into scenes of tragedy.
Earlier this year, at least 28 people were injured in different parts of Karachi due to aerial firing as New Year 2026 began, according to hospital and rescue officials.

The injured included six women and two young girls, who were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Civil Hospital Karachi, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment.
Hospital officials confirmed that several victims suffered bullet wounds after celebratory gunfire continued in residential areas despite repeated warnings by authorities.
Among the injured were eight year old Fareeha near Safora, 11 year old Mah Jabeen in Korangi Area Market, and 8 year old Wajiha in Mahmoodabad.
