The KPT Flyover in Karachi will stay closed for a full month due to urgent repair and maintenance work, confirmed by city officials.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab stated that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) would begin structural repairs this week. The goal is to ensure safety and improve infrastructure in the area.
To help commuters, the Traffic Police have issued a diversion plan with alternate routes. Citizens are advised to avoid the KPT Flyover and follow the new traffic guidelines.
The closure comes amid rising public frustration over power cuts. Residents in Liaquatabad and Azizabad protested against long electricity outages, blocking major roads.
Protesters burned tyres and raised slogans against K-Electric, demanding immediate restoration of electricity as temperatures continue to rise in the city.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department reported that temperatures in Karachi could reach 41°C today (Tuesday), with little relief from sea breezes during the day.
Winds from the northwest were only blowing at 2km/h this morning, but sea breeze is expected to return by April 24, offering some relief.
Weather officials warned that excessive heat could trigger dust storms or windstorms in the next two days. High humidity is also likely once the sea breeze resumes.
