In a significant move, charged parking has been abolished from all main roads in Karachi.
The DIG Traffic has tasked section officers with eliminating paid parking throughout the city.
According to media reports, this decision follows the government’s announcement to remove parking fees in all areas of Karachi.
As part of this initiative, parking lots within the jurisdiction of the Predi Police Station in Sadar have also been abolished.
Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, announced that all parking sites managed by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will now be free of charge.
He emphasized that this decision, made in the public’s interest, will eliminate parking fees at 46 sites on 106 main roads.
However, parking fees will still apply in 25 towns and six cantonment boards. Mayor Wahab also made it clear that legal action will be taken against individuals collecting illegal parking fees on behalf of KMC.
Wahab also highlighted KMC’s financial independence, revealing that the corporation now has over Rs 2 billion in its account. This move is aimed at reducing the financial burden on citizens while streamlining the city’s parking system.
