Muhammad Saqib has made history by becoming Pakistan’s first-ever World Champion in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) at the World MMA Championship 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Saqib won the gold medal in the Under-18 (52.2kg) category, marking a significant achievement for Pakistan in the sport.
In addition to Saqib’s gold, Mahmood Kamal secured two bronze medals in the -93kg and +93kg categories, further solidifying Pakistan’s success at the event.
The championship, organized by the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA), saw over 600 athletes from 63 countries participating.
Despite having only six athletes representing Pakistan, they managed to secure notably positions to make Pakistan proud on the world stage.
PMMAF President Zulfiqar Ali congratulated the athletes on their remarkable achievements, highlighting their resilience and hard work despite limited resources.
He also urged the authorities to invest in MMA facilities and training programs to nurture Pakistan’s rising stars in the sport.
