Sindh govt announces post-Eid expansion of public transport system

In a bid to enhance public transportation services across Sindh, the Transport Department is set to roll out several new projects following the Eid holidays, announced Sindh Minister for Transport Sharjeel Memon.

Under the directive of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the initiatives aim to improve accessibility, affordability, and convenience for commuters throughout the province.

Among the key projects slated for implementation are the expansion of the Pink Bus Service for Women in Karachi as part of its second phase. This initiative seeks to provide safe and reliable transportation options specifically tailored to meet the needs of female passengers.

Additionally, new routes for electric vehicle (EV) buses will be introduced in Karachi, aligning with efforts to promote sustainable and eco-friendly modes of transport. The integration of EV buses into the city’s transit network reflects a commitment to reducing carbon emissions and mitigating environmental impact.

Furthermore, the launch of the People’s Bus Service in Mirpurkhas aims to improve connectivity and mobility for residents of the region, facilitating easier access to essential services and employment opportunities.

In a move towards modernization and convenience, the introduction of a cashless ticketing system for public transport users is also on the agenda. This initiative is expected to streamline the ticketing process, offering passengers a hassle-free and efficient way to pay for their journeys.

Minister Sharjeel Memon emphasized that these initiatives underscore the government’s dedication to serving the people of Sindh by enhancing transportation infrastructure and services. He expressed confidence that the new projects will contribute to improving overall mobility and quality of life for residents across the province.
