Flour mills in Karachi shut down indefinitely as negotiations fail

Negotiations between flour mill owners and the Sindh food department have failed, resulting in the indefinite closure of 92 flour mills across Karachi. The Flour Mills Association had given the Food Department 24 hours to meet their demands, but talks proved futile. Chaudhry Aamir Abdullah, the Chairman of the Flour Mills Association, said that the officers of the Food Department did not accept any of their demands, leading to the strike.

The closure of flour mills may result in a flour crisis, and prices may rise further from the current rate of 160 to 165 rupees per kg. There are concerns that prices could soar as high as 200 rupees per kg if the crisis persists.

The closure of flour mills has raised concerns among the general public, as flour is a staple food in Pakistan. The government and the Flour Mills Association must come to a resolution soon to avoid further damage to the economy and the livelihoods of the people.

“We hope that the government will take notice of our demands and take appropriate action to address the issue,” said Chaudhry Aamir Abdullah. The closure of the flour mills is likely to have a significant impact on the economy and the people of Karachi.
