In a startling turn of events, a Pakistani boxer has gone missing after allegedly stealing money from a fellow female boxer’s bag during their stay in Italy. The incident occurred as Pakistan’s boxing team participates in the qualifying rounds for the Paris Olympics.
Colonel Nasir Tung, Secretary of the Pakistan Boxing Federation, confirmed the unfortunate incident, stating that national boxer Zohaib Rasheed absconded with pounds from the bag of his female teammate. Rasheed reportedly obtained the room key from the hotel reception while the female boxer was away for training, enabling him to access her belongings.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, Rasheed failed to show up for his scheduled fight, resulting in his opponent receiving a walk-over victory in the 51 kg category. Concerns escalated further as Rasheed has been unaccounted for since the incident, prompting the filing of a police report.
According to Colonel Nasir Tung, approximately 250 pounds (equivalent to around 88 thousand Pakistani rupees) were stolen from the female boxer’s bag. Notably, Zohaib Rashid holds accolades in boxing, having secured a bronze medal in the Asian Championship of 2022 and achieving success at the junior level as well.
The disappearance of Zohaib Rasheed has cast a shadow over Pakistan’s boxing team, raising questions about sportsmanship and discipline within the delegation. As authorities continue their efforts to locate Rasheed, the incident serves as a sobering reminder of the challenges faced by athletes both on and off the field.
