The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced the closure of Karachi Airport’s main runway for maintenance purposes due to the accumulation of tire remnants, which pose a risk during aircraft landings.
The decision to close Runway No. 25L was made to remove tire particles that adhere to the surface during landings. The CAA stated that the closure will occur at specific times from April 4 to May 3, with flight operations transitioning to the secondary runway during this period.
According to the schedule provided by the CAA, the main runway will be closed on weekdays, with varying hours of closure. On Mondays, the closure will be from 2 pm to 4 pm, on Tuesdays from 1 pm to 5 pm, on Wednesdays from 2 pm to 5 pm, and on Fridays from 12 noon to 3 pm.
It has been clarified that operations will be suspended on Saturdays and Sundays to facilitate the de-rubberization process of the runway. This measure aims to ensure the safety and efficiency of flight operations at Karachi Airport.
