As the government-level deadline for illegal immigrants to leave the country approaches, Afghan immigrants in Karachi have initiated their departure. The city, with a significant number of settled immigrants, has witnessed concerns over the involvement of illegal immigrants in various criminal activities, including terrorism, occupation, drug, and arms smuggling.
The federal government has set a deadline of October 31 for illegal immigrants nationwide to leave Pakistan. In response to this, a considerable number of Afghan citizens have started migrating from the Sohrab Goth Afghan settlement in Karachi.
Expressing their views on the matter, some immigrants have suggested that the government should have provided additional time for them to make necessary arrangements for departure.
Estimates indicate that there are around 400,000 illegally settled Afghan citizens in Karachi. Regional sources report that more than 15 buses departed for Afghanistan from the Sohrab Goth Afghan Basti on Monday, marking the beginning of the migration process.
