Federal Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque, announced that the Telecommunication Sector in Pakistan has witnessed significant growth, with US $7.1 billion invested in the sector. He further highlighted that the sector has generated billions of rupees in revenue.
Speaking at a MoU signing ceremony for the establishment of the Health Incubator and Science & Technology Park at the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) of Karachi University, Syed Amin Ul Haque emphasized the importance of integrating information and communication technology with academia.
Under the MoU, the Pakistan Software Export Board will set up a Health Incubator and Science and Technology Park at ICCBS, aimed at supporting medical start-ups and connecting students to the digital world.
In response to a request from the KU Vice Chancellor, Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, the IT Minister also revealed plans to digitalize the Examination Centre of Karachi University. He directed the Ministry’s Member IT and CEO National Information Technology Board to coordinate with KU management for the implementation.
Syed Amin Ul Haque acknowledged the potential and competence of Pakistani youth in the technology field, and stressed the importance of providing them with opportunities and platforms to excel. He highlighted the revolutionary steps taken by the Ministry to further promote technology and IT adoption in the country.
The Minister also mentioned that the Ministry of IT & Telecom through the Universal Service Fund invested Rs77.8 billion in 83 projects, aiming to provide broadband services in remote areas of Pakistan. The initiative aimed to facilitate the rural population and enable them to access digital resources smoothly.
