The Climate Action Center (CAC) Karachi has hosted an online webinar to mark the launch of the Urdu edition of Dipesh Chakrabarty’s acclaimed book, The Climate of History in a Planetary Age, as part of its Imagining Life programme.

The book explores how climate change challenges conventional approaches to history and calls for a shift away from human-centred narratives towards a broader understanding of humanity’s relationship with the planet.
The Urdu edition aims to make these discussions accessible to a wider Urdu-reading audience while encouraging greater engagement with climate-related thought and debates in Pakistan.
A key moment during the webinar was the unveiling of the Urdu edition’s cover, formally introducing the translated work to Urdu-speaking readers.
The online gathering brought together prominent scholars, academics and thinkers from Pakistan and abroad, including Dipesh Chakrabarty, Professor of History at the University of Chicago; Faisal Devji, Professor of History at the University of Oxford; Sandro Mezzadra, Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Bologna; Sadia Abbas, Associate Professor of English at Rutgers University; and Ali Siddiqui, translator of the book.
The event also featured Tariq Bin Azad, reviewer and Head of the Urdu Dictionary Board, and Dr Nausheen Anwar, Professor of City and Regional Planning and Director of the Karachi Urban Lab at IBA.

The webinar was organised as a mini-conference, providing a platform for discussions on history, climate, culture, language and changing perspectives on humanity’s place within the planet.
CAC Karachi said the initiative is intended to expand conversations around climate thought in Urdu and help bridge the gap between climate-related ideas, scholarship and practical action in Pakistan.
