Police have registered a case against around 75 to 80 people protesting for justice for slain businessman Mir Raza, accusing them of obstructing traffic, resisting police officials and causing a disturbance during a late-night protest in Karachi.

According to the FIR registered at Ferozabad Police Station, District East, the incident took place on August 27, 2026, at around 12:30am. The case was registered on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Nizam.

The FIR includes charges under Sections 147, 149, 186, 341 and 504 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), relating to unlawful assembly, acts committed with a common purpose, obstruction of a public servant, wrongful restraint and intentional insult.

According to the FIR, officers were on routine patrol when they encountered a group of people allegedly creating a road obstruction.

Police said the group resisted efforts to clear the area, while several individuals allegedly obstructed officials from performing their duties.

The FIR names several individuals while also referring to a larger group of unidentified persons. Police have initiated further investigation into the incident and the role of those named in the case.

Earlier in the day, the judicial commission constituted to investigate the death of young entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali has formally commenced proceedings and issued notices to relevant parties.

The commission has summoned Mir Raza Ali’s family and their counsel, lawyer Jibran Nasir, on August 28 (Friday). A notice has also been issued to the Sindh government’s focal person in connection with the proceedings.

According to the commission’s rules, the inquiry is required to be completed within 30 days.

The commission is headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial and will examine the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death, including the investigation conducted by authorities and other aspects of the case.
