Federal Govt announces Two Public Holidays for Ashura

The federal government has announced two public holidays across the country on the occasion of Ashura.

According to the official announcement, a public holiday will be observed on June 25 for 9 Muharram, while June 26 has been declared a holiday for 10 Muharram (Ashura).

Earlier, the Sindh government had also announced public holidays throughout the province on June 25 and 26 in observance of 9 and 10 Muharram-ul-Haram.

A notification issued by the Chief Secretary Sindh stated that the holidays will apply to all provincial government offices, autonomous bodies, local councils, and corporations operating under the provincial government.

However, institutions providing essential services, hospitals, and offices of security forces will continue to function as usual during the holiday period.

The provincial government has also directed relevant authorities to ensure comprehensive security arrangements to maintain law and order during Ashura processions and religious gatherings.

Officials have been instructed to take necessary measures to facilitate mourners and ensure the smooth conduct of religious events across the province.

On the other hand, authorities in Karachi have finalized security, municipal, and emergency response plans for Muharram-ul-Haram, with special focus on the main processions and religious gatherings scheduled on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram.

The arrangements were reviewed during a high-level meeting held at the Commissioner Karachi Office, jointly chaired by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Syed Hassan Naqvi.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the police, district administration, traffic police, municipal institutions, emergency services, and representatives of religious organizations.

During the meeting, participants conducted a detailed review of security and administrative arrangements for major Muharram processions and majalis across the city.

Authorities discussed traffic management, emergency response mechanisms, sanitation plans, and coordination between government departments and procession organizers.
