More than 3,600 vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, were either stolen or snatched in Karachi during March 2026, raising fresh concerns over rising street crime in the city.

According to data released by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), a total of 3,624 incidents of vehicle theft and snatching were reported across different areas. These included 157 cars and 3,467 motorcycles.

The report revealed that motorcycle theft remained the most common crime, with 3,027 bikes stolen and 440 snatched at gunpoint. In comparison, 140 cars were stolen, while 17 were taken through armed snatching.

In addition to vehicle-related crimes, citizens were deprived of 1,265 mobile phones during the same period, highlighting the broader law and order challenges faced by residents.

The crime statistics also showed that 44 murder cases were reported in March, along with six incidents of extortion and one case of kidnapping for ransom, indicating persistent security concerns.

The rising number of theft and snatching incidents reflects ongoing law enforcement challenges in Karachi. Despite periodic crackdowns, experts say sustained efforts and improved policing strategies are needed to curb street crime and ensure public safety.
