The Punjab Home Department has equipped Civil Defence teams with advanced anti-drone guns to strengthen security against aerial threats, officials confirmed.

According to a department spokesperson, the move marks a major step forward in enhancing civil defence capabilities across the province. The initiative aims to protect sensitive locations and public spaces from hostile drone activity.

Advanced Anti-Drone Technology Introduced

The newly deployed EMG-150 anti-drone gun is capable of detecting and neutralising drones mid-air. With an operational range of 2 to 3 kilometres, the system can jam signals and force drones to land or become inoperable.

Weighing around 6 kilograms, the device is lightweight and designed for easy handling in the field. It uses a high-gain directional antenna for precise targeting and operates across eight different frequencies.

Strong Jamming Capabilities

Officials said the system can disrupt multiple satellite navigation systems, including GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou. With a powerful jamming output of up to 200 watts, the gun can interfere with a drone’s control signals, alter its flight path, or bring it down safely.

The equipment is also built to function in extreme weather conditions, operating effectively in temperatures ranging from -22°C to over 65°C.

Training and Deployment Underway

Civil Defence’s Bomb Disposal and Anti-Drone Squad is currently undergoing specialised training by the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC). This ensures proper handling and effective use of the new technology.

As part of a pilot project, the first anti-drone gun has been deployed in Rawalpindi Division. Authorities plan to expand the initiative by providing similar equipment to Civil Defence units across Punjab.

Government Focus on Security

The spokesperson added that the initiative aligns with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to modernise security infrastructure in the province. The NRTC will continue manufacturing additional units to strengthen defence capabilities.

Background

The use of drones has increased globally in both civilian and hostile activities, raising security concerns for governments worldwide.
