The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has announced plans to install a new control gate at the Hub Canal reservoir as part of efforts to improve the city’s water supply system.
A KW&SC spokesperson said the work will require the Hub Pumping Station to be shut down for 12 hours, from 8 am to 10 pm on Tuesday, January 20.

During this time, water supply will remain suspended in District West and Keamari.
The spokesperson added that hydrants at Crush Plant I and II will also stay closed while the work is underway.
Due to the shutdown, the city is expected to face a water shortage of around 50 million gallons for the day.
On average, Karachi receives about 650 million gallons of water daily, but officials said nearly 600 million gallons will still be supplied despite the maintenance work.

KW&SC officials explained that the existing gate at the canal has been causing frequent problems in water transmission, which made the installation of a new gate necessary.
They said the upgrade will help improve the stability and reliability of water supply across Karachi once the work is completed.
Residents of District West and Keamari have been advised to use water carefully during the shutdown period.
