The Government of Japan has provided advanced medical equipment to a Karachi-based non-governmental organization to support the diagnosis and treatment of blood-related diseases, strengthening healthcare services in Sindh.

The medical equipment was handed over to Muhammadi Haematology, Oncology Services & Welfare Foundation (Muhammadi Foundation) under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). The handover ceremony was held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in Karachi.

The event was attended by Consul General of Japan HATTORI Masaru, Syed Mehdi Hassan Rizvi, General Secretary of the Muhammadi Foundation, and Dr. Dur-e-Naz Jamal, Secretary of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority, along with other representatives from the health sector.

As part of the grant, Japan donated four state-of-the-art Hematology Analyzers manufactured in Japan. These modern machines will significantly enhance the diagnostic capacity of the Muhammadi Foundation by enabling it to screen around 120 blood samples daily.

The equipment will help ensure early and accurate diagnosis of blood disorders, including thalassemia and other chronic hematological illnesses.

Speaking at the ceremony, Consul General HATTORI Masaru said that early diagnosis and quality medical treatment are critical for patients suffering from blood-related diseases, many of which require lifelong care. He emphasized that improving access to reliable diagnostic services would help patients live with dignity and improved quality of life.

He further stated that the project reflects the strong and enduring friendship between Japan and Pakistan, adding that Japan remains committed to supporting grassroots-level healthcare initiatives that directly benefit vulnerable communities.

Syed Mehdi Hassan Rizvi, General Secretary of the Muhammadi Foundation, expressed deep gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their continued support. He said the donation would greatly strengthen the foundation’s ability to serve patients suffering from thalassemia, anemia, and other blood disorders, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.

Dr. Dur-e-Naz Jamal appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of modern diagnostic tools in ensuring safe blood transfusion practices and effective disease management across Sindh.

According to officials, Japan will continue to support local NGOs in Pakistan through timely assistance and development-focused projects, particularly in health, education, and community welfare sectors.
