The fresh water shortage in Karachi deepens following the Water Corporation’s announcement of a four-day shutdown of the old Pipri Pumping Station for maintenance work, which will affect supply to several areas.
According to a spokesperson, the old Pipri Pumping Station will remain closed from January 10 to January 13 while essential maintenance activities are carried out at the facility.

During this period, water supply from the old facility will stay suspended, directly affecting several residential and commercial localities that depend on the Pipri system.
The Water Corporation clarified that the new Pipri Pumping Station will continue operations, ensuring partial supply to Karachi, though pressure and availability may remain limited.

Officials confirmed that Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, and Model Town are among the areas expected to experience significant disruption throughout the four-day maintenance schedule period.
In addition to residential areas, the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants in Karachi will also remain temporarily closed during the four day maintenance work.

The Water Corporation urged residents in affected areas to store water responsibly, manage consumption carefully, and cooperate with authorities until normal supply resumes after maintenance completion.
Maintenance work at the aging Pipri facility is aimed at improving efficiency, preventing future breakdowns, and ensuring safer long-term water distribution for the city residents and industries.
