The annual performance report of the Directorate of Passports and Immigration was released at the end of 2025, with officials confirmed that a total of 5.572 million passports were issued during 2025, making it the highest annual passport issuance figure in the country’s documented history.
The Interior Ministry said modernisation efforts, including installation of advanced printing machines, helped permanently eliminate the long-standing backlog of pending passport applications across Pakistan.

Data released by the Passport Department showed that 3.275 million passports were issued under the normal processing category during the year.
In addition, 1.839 million passports were issued through the urgent category, while a total of 2.76 million passports were issued under the fast-track category, which allows citizens to receive passports within significantly reduced timeframes.

Authorities said extended working hours played a key role, as passport offices across the country remained operational 24 hours a day throughout most of the year.
The department noted that round-the-clock service greatly reduced waiting times and improved accessibility for overseas Pakistanis and local applicants alike.
