Karachi reports 510 open, 442 damaged manholes

Karachi has reported a total of 510 open manholes and 442 damaged manholes across various neighborhoods, according to official data from the Complaint Management Center of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC).

The live report system, launched under the KWSC Manhole Campaign on January 8, 2025, has received a total of 4,090 complaints so far, reflecting strong public engagement with the reporting service.

Official data highlighted that out of these complaints, the department successfully resolved 3,055 cases, achieving an overall resolution rate of 75.69 percent since the campaign began earlier this year.

However, the data also show that at least 953 manholes remain open or damaged across Karachi, posing ongoing safety risks to pedestrians, motorcyclists, and residents who move through busy urban locations on a daily basis.

The data further revealed that citizens used multiple communication platforms to report open or damaged manholes, with 202 complaints filed through the department’s mobile application and a significantly larger number of 3,590 lodged through the 1334 call center.

For open manhole complaints alone, the system received 2,470 reports, resolving 1,914 while leaving 511 cases pending. The resolution percentage for this category currently stands at 77.49 percent, data confirmed.

Meanwhile, damaged manhole data shows 1,620 complaints received, 1,141 resolved, and 442 still pending. The resolution rate for damaged manholes stands at 70.43 percent, highlighting areas requiring further operational attention.
