President Asif Ali Zardari has formally approved the official summary for the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Chief of Defence Forces, marking a major step in the Pakistan military leadership approval process for the upcoming years.
The approval was granted following the Prime Minister’s recommendation, confirming Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will concurrently continue as Chief of Army Staff, with his new role as Chief of Defence Forces lasting five years.
According to the official statement from the Presidency, this appointment reflects the government’s policy to strengthen unified command and strategic decision-making as Pakistan moves into a new phase of defence management.
The Presidency confirmed that Field Marshal Asim Munir’s extended role aims to improve coordination between military branches, streamline national security planning, and enhance operational readiness across multiple defence sectors nationwide.
The statement added that the President also approved a two-year extension for Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, whose current tenure as Chief of Air Staff ends on 19 March 2026.
