The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Monday released a video of Ibrahim’s grandfather, in which he retracted earlier accusations and stated that KMC officials, not a teenager named Tanveer, had recovered the child’s body.
Mohammadul Hassan, grandfather of the three-year-old Ibrahim who died after falling into an open manhole near Karachi’s NIPA flyover, said he initially believed a 15-year-old ‘trash picker’ named Tanveer had located the body due to widespread reporting of the claim.

He explained that the family was not present when Tanveer rescued, and was verbally informed that he had spotted Ibrahim’s body in the manhole.
According to Hassan, Tanveer had no video or photographic proof, and provided only a verbal statement saying he searched the manhole after hearing that a child had gone missing after falling into an open manhole.
Hassan said the family found the boy’s claim suspicious from the beginning, but became convinced after reporters interviewed Tanveer and the story spread widely across television channels and social media platforms.
However, Hassan stated that upon reviewing “solid proof,” including recorded videos and photographs, the family learned that KMC rescue workers had, in fact, retrieved Ibrahim’s body from the manhole during the official operation.

He said the available footage clearly showed KMC personnel conducting the recovery, leaving no doubt about which team had brought the child out. He added that the family was grateful to the KMC officials involved.
Hassan further announced that he would hold a press conference soon to present the evidence and clarify the truth regarding who recovered the body.
On the day of the incident (December 01), Ibrahim’s grandfather, in an official statement to the media, held Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab responsible for the tragedy, alleging that negligence by the city administration led to the fatal accident involving the open manhole at Karachi’s NIPA flyover.
