The government of Sindh has taken an important security step by deciding to connect indoor and outdoor cameras of People’s Bus Service and EV Taxi Service vehicles to Karachi’s Safe City surveillance network.

According to Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITSs) installed across both services will now connect directly with the Safe City Project for enhanced public safety.

He stated that this decision seeks to safeguard public transport networks on modern lines while improving urban surveillance measures, especially in major cities facing security challenges such as Karachi.

Officials believe that after system integration, traffic management, crime monitoring, emergency response timeframes, and overall public safety will improve significantly with real-time visual data available throughout Karachi.

Sharjeel Memon has revealed that the Sindh government is taking rapid steps towards the launch of an eco-friendly electric taxi service by December.

Private investors presented recommendations for designing an EV taxi system, including charging station setup, vehicle operations, fare structures, and sustainable business models to ensure long-term project success.

Sharjeel Memon stated that Karachi requires a modern transport system with its rapidly increasing population, and that an EV taxi service would offer an economical, sustainable, and safe solution to traditional taxis and rickshaws.

He assured investors of the viability of the project, noting that its electric taxi service will initially launch in Karachi before expanding to Hyderabad, Sukkur, and other urban centres.

The Sindh government plans to introduce an exclusive Pink EV Taxi Service designed specifically to cater to women. Trained female drivers, tracking systems, and secure travel arrangements will all feature.

The minister emphasized how an EV taxi service will not only alleviate travel difficulties but also create jobs, encourage clean energy consumption, and strengthen environmental commitment in the province.
