The future of Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League has come under renewed doubt after the Pakistan Cricket Board issued a legal notice to the franchise’s owner, Ali Tareen.
The long-standing friction between the two parties has intensified, raising concerns over the team’s participation in the upcoming seasons.
According to senior sports journalist Saleem Khaliq, the PCB has accused the Multan Sultans management of repeatedly violating key clauses of their franchise agreement.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has warned that if the matter is not resolved, it could lead to the termination of the team’s existing rights.
Reports indicate that the notice points to delays in financial clearances and incomplete contractual commitments.
The PCB claims that despite multiple reminders, important terms of the 10-year agreement are still pending.
The board has now given the owners a deadline to submit their response, with the warning that failure to comply could result in a re-bidding process before PSL 2026.

Multan Sultans, who joined the league in 2017, have faced financial challenges in the past.
The franchise’s first owners, Schon Properties, were removed due to payment issues.
In 2018, the Tareen family secured the rights in a record Rs 5.2 billion deal, which also included the highest annual franchise fee in PSL history.
Since then, Ali Tareen has often criticised the PCB’s financial model, arguing that revenue distribution is unfair to his team.
His stance has frequently put him at odds with the board, and the latest episode has once again sparked debate in cricket circles.
Despite the ongoing dispute, insiders believe that fans should remain calm.
Ali Tareen has already expressed that he does not wish to continue under the current agreement, and with the PCB now reassessing the valuation of all franchises, Multan are expected to place a fresh bid under a revised system — one that could offer more favourable commercial terms.
As the PSL prepares for expansion, with two new teams on the horizon, Multan Sultans may be on the verge of a major ownership shift.
