Tomato prices in Karachi have declined after a sharp surge last week when rates had soared to Rs 500 per kilogram.
According to Geo News report, the tomato price has dropped to Rs 350 per kilogram in Karachi, after the arrival of fresh tomato consignments from Iran, which helped stabilize the market.
The reports revealed that the surge in tomato rates was recorded due to the end of the local crops across Pakistan. For weeks, citizens had faced skyrocketing prices due to limited availability.
In comparison, Lahore and Peshawar continue to report higher rates, with tomatoes selling between Rs 400 and Rs 500 per kilogram.

In Quetta, the price has also eased slightly to Rs 350, while Wana and Hub markets still report higher prices of around Rs 400–500 per kilogram.
Traders, according to Geo News, explained that the earlier hike was caused by the delay in domestic harvest and reduced cross-border supply.
Tomato imports from Iran and Afghanistan had been inconsistent, leading to severe shortages across several cities.
With the new shipments from Iran, markets in Karachi and nearby regions have seen a gradual correction in prices.
However, traders warn that unstable foreign supply chains and rising transport costs could again push prices upward in the coming weeks.
