A massive global Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage disrupted several major platforms, affecting millions of users.
According to AWS, engineers detected “increased error rates” across multiple services in its US-East-1 region in Virginia, one of the network’s critical data zones.
The problem persisted for about three hours before most operations were restored around 10:35 GMT, though some services remained affected.
The outage impacted a wide range of platforms – including Amazon Prime, Perplexity, Fortnite, Alexa, Snapchat, and Duolingo – along with Reddit, Signal, Hulu, Disney+, and even Delta Air Lines.

Reports from Downdetector confirmed disruptions across several countries, affecting UK banks, mobile networks, WhatsApp, and Tinder.
Analysts say the incident underscores the global economy’s heavy reliance on Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet’s cloud services, which power vast portions of the internet.
“It’s like putting all of your economic eggs in one basket,” remarked financial analyst Michael Hewson, reflecting on the systemic risk of centralized cloud infrastructure.
AWS, which provides on-demand computing, storage, and digital tools to businesses and governments, has faced similar issues before. While AWS reported that most services have recovered, Amazon and AWS have not yet commented on the full extent of the impact or the root cause of the disruption.
