A new syllabus for Islamiat, Pakistan Studies, and Urdu has been introduced for O-Level students in Pakistan, with major revisions aimed at improving quality, engagement, and learning outcomes.

The new curriculum, launched by Cambridge International Examinations in collaboration with Pakistan’s Ministry of Education, is designed to align classroom content with modern educational standards while retaining strong emphasis on Pakistan’s culture, history, and values.

Officials said the revision focuses on fostering critical thinking, encouraging interactive learning, and preparing students for global challenges while ensuring they gain deeper insight into Islamic teachings and Pakistan’s national identity.

Under the revised Islamiat syllabus, students will now study Islamic teachings and practices in greater depth, with added focus on their relevance in addressing issues in contemporary modern societies.

The Pakistan Studies curriculum has been broadened to cover political, social, and economic development in more detail, giving students a clearer understanding of Pakistan’s journey from independence to present-day challenges.

Similarly, the Urdu syllabus has been updated to strengthen language proficiency and literary appreciation, with new material emphasizing contemporary cultural issues, ensuring students engage with both classical and modern literature.

Experts believe the new syllabus is a step toward making education more practical and student-centered. Case studies, group discussions, and problem-solving exercises will now play a bigger role in classrooms.

The changes have been welcomed by educationists, who argue the revised approach will improve student engagement and prepare learners to better connect with both local heritage and international academic expectations.

Authorities confirmed that the updated courses will be implemented in schools from the upcoming academic year. Teachers will receive additional resources and training to support smooth classroom adoption.
