Millions of Muslims travel each year to Mecca and Medina to perform Umrah and visit the Prophet’s Mosque, yet many do not know their rights as pilgrims. To address this, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has launched a new awareness campaign to ensure a safer and clearer experience for visitors.
According to Saudi media outlet Sabq, the campaign is working with the General Transport Authority and the Awareness Center. Its main goal is to educate pilgrims about their rights, especially when using taxis and other forms of transportation in the holy cities.
The ministry has issued clear guidelines for pilgrims.
- Passengers should make sure that electronic meters are turned on at the start of each taxi ride and that fares match the official rates. Pilgrims can also file complaints if drivers or transport providers break the rules.
Officials said that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve accountability in transportation services and to protect pilgrims from excessive charges and mistreatment. The campaign aims to create a safe, fair, and organized travel environment, allowing worshippers to focus on their religious duties without added stress.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah highlighted that awareness is crucial in protecting the dignity and rights of millions of Muslims visiting the Kingdom each year. By providing pilgrims with knowledge, Saudi authorities hope to improve the overall experience for those performing Umrah and to raise service standards within the holy sites.
