Karachi road accidents claim 581 lives in 2025

Karachi reported over 580 lives lost in traffic accidents during the first eight months of 2025, according to reports released by rescue officials.

According to data from the Karachi Traffic Police, 581 people have died in 543 reported road accidents this year, out of these, 295 victims, or 50.77 percent, were motorcyclists.

Additionally, 199 pedestrians, making up 34.25 percent, lost their lives. The remaining 87 fatalities, or 14.97 percent, were from other types of accidents.

The Karachi Road Accident Analysis Team (KRAAT) report details the vehicles most involved in deadly crashes.

Truck collisions were among the deadliest, resulting in 62 lives lost across 61 accidents, which is 11.21 percent. Trawlers caused 59 deaths in 52 incidents, accounting for 9.56 percent.

Water tankers were involved in 47 crashes, leading to 54 deaths, which is 8.64 percent. Dumpers were responsible for 30 fatalities in 22 accidents, representing 4.04 percent.

Other fatal collisions included motorcycle crashes with 92 deaths, which is 16.91 percent. Car accidents resulted in 67 deaths, making up 11.21 percent.

Bus-related crashes caused 34 deaths, or 5.33 percent. Mini-buses, coaches, mini-trucks, oil tankers, pickups, jeeps, and motorcycle rickshaws also added to the death toll, but at lower percentages.

Police records show that in 111 traffic accidents where the vehicle type could not be determined, 113 people were killed, which is 20.40 percent.
