In a recent development, several senior jail officials were found guilty in the case in which a total of 225 prisoners managed to escape the facility.

The investigation report has been completed, according to which Superintendent Arshad Shah, Assistant Superintendent Abdullah, and Deputy Superintendent Zulfiqar Pirzada were named as responsible officers.

The report recommended registering First Investigation Reports (FIRs) against them and declared the IG and DIG Prisons guilty of negligence.

Investigators stated the Malir Jail escape was not mere negligence but a complete system failure. The findings described the incident as both an administrative and institutional collapse.

Security preparation, training, and monitoring were found severely lacking in the prison.

The report recommended strengthening jail doors, walls, control points and advised installing a 24-hour modern CCTV system along with providing crisis response training to officers and staff.

Further recommendations included allocating emergency zones for prisoners and staff, placing motion sensors and alarm systems at sensitive points, and establishing a separate armory.

Anti-riot equipment and drones should also be secured for emergency use.
