Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has ordered an inquiry into the road-cutting funds allocated to Karachi’s Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs).

According to official documents, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) paid a total of Rs 13.43 billion to Karachi towns in account of road cutting funds; however, most of the roads remain incomplete or the development work remains unseen across the city.

New Karachi Town Municipal Corporation reportedly received Rs 3.55 billion, North Nazimabad Rs 2.35 billion, Lyari Town Rs 1.2 billion, and Jinnah Town Rs 730 million, but no major road repair work is visible.

Documents further reveal that Malir Town received Rs 620 million, Chanesar Town Rs 260 million, and Saddar Town Rs 260 million, while Landhi Town collected Rs 210 million for the same purpose.

Smaller allocations were noted for Ibrahim Hyderi Town at Rs 7 million, Maripur Keamari at Rs 2 million, and Moriro Mirbahar at Rs 1.1 million, according to official records.

After reviewing the report, the Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, expressed dissatisfaction questioning the absence of visible road construction despite the release of significant funds for the projects in different towns of the metropolis.

“The towns have received nearly Rs 14 billion; they must build the roads. The Sindh government will not allow public money to be wasted,” said the Chief Minister.

Officials of the towns have been directed to submit a comprehensive report on expenditures and progress to ensure accountability and effective use of funds for the infrastructure development of Karachi.
