The Federal Government has fixed the Diyat (Compensation for loss of life, or “blood money”) amount in Pakistan at Rs9.83 million for the financial year 2025-26.
The updated value represents the mandatory compensation for loss of life under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Blood money serves as a legal remedy in such unfortunate circumstances.
According to a Finance Division notification issued on Monday, the Diyat amount has been set at Rs9,828,670. Understanding blood money in Pakistan is crucial as the figure is equivalent to 30,630 grams of silver, as defined under Section 323 (2) of the PPC.
It clarifies how blood money is calculated using current silver rates.

The Diyat amount is revised each year in line with the prevailing silver market rate.
The concept of blood money in Pakistan is payable to the legal heirs of the victim in cases of loss of life. This year’s rate marks an increase compared to last year. Rising silver prices have impacted the blood money calculations significantly.
