The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) now offers a detailed video guide to help citizens update CNIC name in Pakistan quickly and efficiently.
This guide explains the process step by step, ensuring applicants know exactly what documents to prepare and how to complete the procedure.
Required documents
Before visiting a NADRA registration center, applicants must gather all necessary documents. The primary requirement is a computerized birth certificate issued by the Union Council or Cantonment Board showing the updated name.
If a computerized birth certificate is unavailable, applicants can submit an affidavit. Use NADRA Form C1 for a B-Form or Form C2 for a CNIC. Additionally, a certificate from Dar-ul-Ifta is required if the name change follows a change of religion.

Application process
Once documents are ready, visit a NADRA office and obtain a token. When called, biometric verification will be conducted.
Officials will record details, take fingerprints, and capture a photograph. Applicants must verify the printed information before submission.
Next, the office in charge will approve the application. During this step, applicants may be asked questions about their families.
NADRA confirms that no form attestation is required for CNIC amendments.
Fee structure and processing time
After approval, applicants receive an SMS confirmation and pay the applicable fee at the office or online. The charges are:
- Rs. 2,500 for executive service (7 working days)
- Rs. 1,500 for urgent service (15 working days)
- Rs. 750 for normal service (30 working days)
Finally, once processed, the updated CNIC must be collected from the same NADRA office where the application was submitted.
