The government of Sindh is considering replacing existing computerized arms licenses with smart card-based licenses using modern technology to improve efficiency and transparency.
The proposal was discussed in a meeting chaired by Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, where officials reviewed ways to make the arms licensing system more effective.
Under the plan, current computerized licenses would be converted to smart cards linked to a criminal record database, preventing individuals with criminal backgrounds from obtaining licenses.
The Home Minister also suggested that NADRA include ballistic signatures of bullets on the licenses. This feature would help law enforcement trace firearms used in crimes back to their owners.
Officials confirmed that the new smart cards will be issued under the existing fee structure to ensure no extra financial burden on citizens.
The government says these reforms aim to strengthen public safety and curb the misuse of licensed weapons.
