The Sindh cabinet has given initial approval to authorize Wah Industries for vehicle fitness certification, aiming to improve road safety and compliance standards across the province.
During a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the transport department was directed to work with Wah Industries and submit a revised proposal for final approval.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon briefed the cabinet on plans to set up vehicle fitness inspection centers in five major cities. Five centers are already being developed in Karachi, while additional facilities will be established in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpur Khas, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
These centers will issue mandatory fitness certificates to commercial and heavy vehicles, ensuring they meet safety and emission standards. Memon added that an online system for vehicle registration and challan issuance is already operational. “So far, fitness certificates have been issued to over 33,000 vehicles,” he said.
According to official figures, Sindh currently has about 9.2 million registered vehicles, highlighting the need for stricter inspection and certification measures
