A man who was slapped on an Indian flight went missing briefly after the incident but later reached home safely by train, as reported by BBC.
The video of the man, identified as Hussein Ahmed Majmoodar, 32, is from Latimara village in Katigura Assembly, Kahar district of Assam, India, sparked outrage and raised concerns about Islamophobia on Indian flights.
The incident happened on Thursday, July 31, on IndiGo flight 6E-138 from Mumbai to Kolkata. In the video, a Muslim passenger wearing a cap is slapped by another passenger.
In an interview with the BBC, Hussein’s father, Abdul Manan Majmoodar, confirmed that the person seen in the video is indeed his son.
Hussein’s family said he traveled from Kolkata to Assam by train. He is now at home and safe, after being untraceable for a short time following the incident.
Reports suggest the Muslim man appeared unwell, and the cabin crew was assisting him. Another passenger allegedly became agitated and slapped him mid-flight.
The video has triggered strong criticism online. Many users labeled the act as Islamophobic and questioned airline security and passenger behavior during flights.
IndiGo Airlines responded by banning the passenger who slapped Hussein. The airline stated it does not tolerate such actions and has taken necessary disciplinary action.
