The Karachi Bar Association has announced a complete strike on August 2 to protest the murder of Senior Advocate Khawaja Shamsul Islam, who was shot dead during Friday prayers in Karachi’s Defence area.
The announcement came just hours after the lawyer succumbed to injuries sustained in the targeted attack.
In a strongly worded statement, the Karachi Bar expressed deep sorrow and outrage, calling the incident a severe blow to the legal fraternity.
“This shocking murder has created a sense of fear and insecurity among the legal community,” the Bar said.
The association has instructed all lawyers to boycott court proceedings across the city as a mark of protest.
“No lawyer will appear in any court on Saturday, August 2,” the statement declared.

The Bar also called upon the government and law enforcement agencies to arrest the culprits immediately and bring them to justice.
Khawaja Shamsul Islam, a senior and well-respected lawyer, was fatally attacked near a mosque in DHA Phase 6. His son, who was with him at the time, also suffered gunshot wounds and is currently being treated at a private hospital.
The police has reportedly identified the killer as the son of Islam’s former gunman.
