The government of Gilgit-Baltistan has declared 37 locations across the region disaster-hit following days of devastating floods that caused widespread damage, loss of life, and left several areas cut off.
A formal notification has been issued to mark the affected zones.
According to provincial government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, the Diamer district has faced the worst damage, with emergency imposed in 12 locations.
Other districts affected include Gilgit (9 places), Ghizer (5), Skardu (4), Shigar (4), Ganche (2), Nagar (1), and Kharmang (1).
The flood disasters have resulted in damages worth Rs 20 billion, the spokesperson said, adding that 22 vehicles were swept away, and 10 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives.
At least four individuals were injured, all of whom have received medical treatment.
Authorities have launched a search operation to trace 10 to 15 missing tourists, with rescue teams deployed in flood-affected areas.
Relief and rehabilitation efforts are also underway, as the region continues to deal with the aftermath of the disaster.
The Gilgit-Baltistan government has started Rs 440 million worth of restoration projects from its own resources.
These include rebuilding water and electricity systems, and restoring roads to reconnect cut-off communities. The rehabilitation of 509 homes is being treated as a top priority, though officials admit it remains a significant challenge.
Relief items including tents, blankets, food supplies, and kitchen sets have been distributed among the victims.
Faizullah Faraq expressed hope that the Prime Minister of Pakistan would soon announce support measures to help heal the wounds of those affected by the floods.
