Former Indian Home Minister and Congress leader has stated that there is no evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the recent Pahalgam terror attack, claiming that the attackers were Indian nationals trained inside the country.
The ex-minister, Palaniappan Chidambaram, criticized the Modi government for blaming Pakistan without proof.
“Why does the Indian government assume they came from Pakistan? Has the government verified their nationality?” he asked during a session in Parliament.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly reacted to Chidambaram’s remarks during the Operation Sindoor debate, accusing him of giving a clean chit to Pakistan.
BJP leaders reiterated the Modi government’s stance, blaming Pakistan for the attack.
Earlier, Chidambaram had also criticized the Indian government’s position on Gaza. He said the world is ignoring a humanitarian crisis, as innocent women and children die daily in Gaza.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he cited United Nations (UN) reports, stating that over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed while searching for food since May.
He added, “Photos of starving children in refugee camps show the brutal reality. The world sleeps, and when it wakes up, its conscience is buried.”
Meanwhile, the Pakistani government condemned the Pahalgam attack and offered full cooperation, including independent investigations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged for a transparent and unbiased probe. However, India rejected the offer.
The attack in Pahalgam, a tourist hotspot in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IOK), left 26 civilians dead in a tragic shooting incident.
