During the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Pakistan extended an invitation to China’s PeaceCable International Network to invest in its fiber connectivity initiatives, aiming to enhance digital infrastructure across the region.
Pakistan’s Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, met with PeaceCable CEO Sun Xiaohua and Sales Director Zhuang Wei (Lucus) to discuss submarine and terrestrial optical fiber cable projects.
The talks focused on expanding digital connectivity between Pakistan and its neighboring regions through collaborative infrastructure development.
PeaceCable, with a global network generating around USD 24 billion in annual revenue, showcased its capabilities in fiber optics and power solutions.
The company was encouraged to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s Fibre to the Home (FTTH) expansion, Optical Distribution Network (ODN) market, and regional terrestrial fiber projects.
Minister Khawaja also presented Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s digital vision, highlighting the National Fiberization Policy.
Key goals include connecting 10 million homes with fiber broadband in three years, increasing fiber-connected mobile towers from 14% to 60%, and reducing Right of Way costs through regulatory reforms.
The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication reaffirmed its commitment to supporting public-private partnerships in pursuit of a more digitally connected Pakistan.
