China has expressed a strong interest in forming AI-powered medical and technology partnerships with Pakistan.

The development emerged after a meeting between Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and a senior Chinese delegation at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai.

During the meeting, discussions focused on launching an AI skills exchange program for Pakistani youth, enhancing digital governance through collaboration with the National IT Board, and creating joint ventures with startups in sectors like health tech, edtech, and fintech.

The aim is to build stronger digital ties while boosting innovation and capacity-building in Pakistan’s growing tech industry.

The Chinese delegation also proposed introducing smart maintenance machinery and AI-powered applications into Pakistan’s infrastructure.

In addition, they showed a willingness to promote AI-based research in traditional Chinese medicine, with the goal of finding solutions to chronic and neurological illnesses through technology-assisted healthcare models.

Minister Shaza Fatima welcomed the proposals and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to embracing emerging technologies for economic growth.

She emphasized that Pakistan is ready to support cross-border innovation and offer full institutional backing for projects that drive technological progress and skill development.

The delegation included notable Chinese figures such as Cheng Dong, Member of the Standing Committee of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Vice President of the Shanghai Zhangjiang High-tech City Medical Innovation Research Institute; Liu Yuangui, Vice President of Shenlan Technology; Professor Zhao Shanting, a German-trained medical expert; and Dr. He Bin, a German PhD and research assistant.

The partnership is seen as part of a broader effort to position Pakistan as a competitive tech hub in the region, especially as both countries continue to strengthen ties under the Digital Silk Road and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.
