The admission process for the 2025-26 academic year in government colleges across Sindh has been completed, with Computer Science emerging as the top choice among students in Karachi.

According to the Sindh Electronic Centralized College Admission Programme (SECAP), 169,923 students across the province secured admissions this year – a 30 percent increase from the previous year.

In Karachi alone, 99,711 students enrolled in various colleges. The highest number, 31,692 students, opted for Computer Science, showing a growing shift toward technology-related education.

Computer Science was followed by Pre-Medical with 22,846 admissions, Commerce with 21,233, Pre-Engineering with 11,386, Humanities with 8,876, and Home Economics with only 160 admissions.

Dr. Naveed Rab Siddiqui, Director General of Colleges Sindh, said the trend shows students are now prioritizing technology over traditional subjects, which reflects future-oriented career planning.

He also said this year’s process included new powers given to college principals. They can now directly manage transfers, cancellations, and claims. This step aims to make the system faster, more efficient, and easier for students.

Dr. Siddiqui said the new academic session for Class XI will start on August 5, and colleges have been instructed to complete preparations accordingly.

Other cities also saw large numbers of admissions. Hyderabad followed Karachi with 26,543 students, most of whom chose Pre-Medical (16,767 admissions).

In other districts: Mirpurkhas had 10,618 admissions, Shaheed Benazirabad 10,183, Larkana 9,889, and Sukkur 10,979. Each showed varied interest across science, commerce, and humanities.

Education experts say this digital shift in both subjects and systems reflects the changing mindset of the youth in Sindh, who are now looking toward careers in technology, innovation, and digital business.
