Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated a long-delayed vertical plaza at Bolton Market, Saddar on Sunday to reduce traffic congestion in the city’s main commercial zone.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) developed the facility, which offers parking space for over 200 cars and 250 motorcycles. Mayor Wahab said the project faced nearly five decades of delays due to political hurdles and court disputes.
He noted that the original plan was introduced during Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s government but was shelved during General Zia-ul-Haq’s regime. “After 49 years, this facility is finally open to the public,” Wahab said.
He emphasized that city development should not be halted due to fear of investigations or court challenges. “When Bolton Market thrives, Karachi and Pakistan benefit,” he added.
Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad and other city officials also attended the ceremony. Wahab reaffirmed that Karachi’s development will continue under the leadership and vison of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
