The Sindh government has officially launched Phase II of the People’s IT Programme aiming to empower 35,000 young individuals with advanced digital skills needed in today’s global tech-driven economy.
Speaking at the launch, Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the government has allocated Rs 1.4 billion for the second phase, building on the success of the first, which trained over 13,500 students in high-demand IT fields. To encourage excellence, 300 top performers were awarded laptops and Google Chromebooks.
“This initiative has become a flagship digital training model in Sindh. Our goal is to prepare youth to thrive in the international digital marketplace,” Memon stated. He emphasized that the province’s historic investment in education and digital skills reflects a commitment to future-ready human capital.
Phase II will offer training in 12 high-demand digital technologies and is part of a broader Human Capital Development strategy run by the Information Science and Technology Department.
The government has also introduced targeted training schemes for non-ICT graduates and undergraduates with basic knowledge of computers or programming. These programs are delivered by experienced ICT faculty and industry professionals and focus on both technical and soft skills, aiming to align youth capabilities with industry needs.
Officials say these efforts will not only bridge the skills gap but also fuel socio-economic growth by integrating more Pakistanis into the expanding global digital economy. The People’s IT Programme is seen as a cornerstone of Sindh’s ongoing education reforms, setting a foundation for long-term progress in the province’s digital and professional landscape
