Several persons were injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger coach near a checkpost in Kalat, Balochistan, on Wednesday.

The police officials stated that the vehicle was en route from Karachi to Quetta when the ambush occurred,

Station House Officer (SHO) Kalat Habibullah confirmed the incident to local media, stating that the attack happened as the coach was nearing a local security checkpoint.

The passenger vehicle, a common mode of transport on the Karachi-Quetta route, typically carries between 40 to 50 people, though the exact number aboard at the time of the attack remains unclear.

Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the assailants.

According to the spokesperson of the Balochistan government, Shahid Rind, three passengers were killed, and seven others were injured in the attack.

The injured and deceased have been shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Kalat, where the condition of at least two passengers is reported to be critical.

Emergency services are continuing rescue operations, and more injured individuals are expected to arrive at the hospital.

Law enforcement agencies confirmed that they have only received preliminary information, and a full investigation is now underway to identify the assailants and determine the motive behind the attack.

This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
