Overseas Pakistanis can now use a tax-free mobile registration facility during visits to Pakistan. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) allows free registration for 120 days per visit.
The policy is part of the FBR and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)’s digital access expansion plans, which help short-term visitors stay connected without paying heavy import taxes.
“This automated, free service can be accessed via the DIRBS portal and allows one mobile device to be used during each visit without paying taxes,” the PTA said in a statement on Wednesday.
“This initiative ensures seamless mobile access and reflects our commitment to promoting digital services for overseas Pakistanis,” the statement added.
The initiative will benefit thousands of overseas Pakistanis who return to Pakistan for extended holidays and previously had to pay high duties to use their phones temporarily.
How to Register Your Mobile for Free with FBR
To register your phone, visit the DIRBS portal at https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs and use the Temporary Mobile Registration System. The process is fully online and automated.
The offer is exclusively for overseas Pakistanis visiting Pakistan. Each visitor can avail the registration once per trip, with validity up to 120 days.
